INDIANAPOLIS, Ind., (January 4, 2010) — Mike Shuter of Frankton, Ind. was re-elected president of the Indiana Corn Marketing Council (ICMC) at its December board of directors meeting. Shuter, a Madison County grain and livestock producer, has served on the ICMC board since 2001.
Also re-elected were David Howell of Middletown as vice president and Gary Lamie of West Point as secretary. Dennis Maple of Greentown was also elected to a first term as Treasurer.
The ICMC is responsible for investing state corn checkoff funds in programs that strengthen the demand for corn and corn products. Over the last two and a half years, the ICMC board has focused on five major areas, including ethanol, livestock, new uses, value-added exports and production/environmental stewardship research.
“I appreciate the opportunity to continue to provide leadership to our state’s corn checkoff organization, especially as we move towards adopting a new five-year strategic plan in March that will further define the areas where our checkoff investments can make the most difference to Indiana corn farmers,” said Shuter. “Continued support of our state’s ethanol and livestock industries as major consumers of corn are likely going to be at the top of the priority list, but I think we will see some other issues, including societal and environmental, demand more of our attention over the next several years.”
